The Arithmetic of Time: Compassion, hospitality and reparation in Gerador

The present work aims to open a new framework of thought and public sharing, still little matured, around the relationship between Portuguese social reality and the emergence of alternative media, particularly of a digital nature. In this sense, we intend to understand the historical, civic and social responsibility that alternative media have, based on three pillars of social thought: Compassion (Nussbaum, 2001), Poetics of Hospitality (Almeida, 2023) and, finally, Historical Reparation (Hall, 2018). Following this reflective and critical intention, we present as fieldwork an interview carried out with the digital platform Gerador, an interview constructed from our research questions: can digital alternative media contribute to the integration of silenced and marginalized social and historical communities? And how can these communities be normalized in post-colonial Portuguese grammar?
