Between May 28 and 30, 2025, the MigraMediaActs project took part in the 12th National Symposium on Psychological Research, organized by the Portuguese Psychological Association, which was held at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP).

On May 30, two presentations related to the project were delivered as part of the thematic symposium titled “Representations of the Colonial Past: Dissemination, Change, and Psychosocial Impact”, coordinated by Joaquim Pires Valentim (University of Coimbra) and Rosa Cabecinhas (University of Minho).

The first MigraMediaActs presentation, titled “The Colonial Past in Crossed Narratives: Social Representations of History among Young People in Angola, Mozambique, and Portugal”, was delivered by Luiza Lins and co-authored with researchers Rosa Cabecinhas, Julia Alves Brasil, Armindo Armando, and Jacob Cupata. The talk presented the results of a comparative study on social representations of history, highlighting points of convergence among the three countries, particularly regarding the oppressive effects of colonialism, liberation struggles, and decolonization processes.

Also on May 30, Rosa Cabecinhas presented the talk “Mnemonic Activism, Decolonization of Public Space, and Social Change”, co-authored with Isabel Macedo, Pedro Menezes, Júlia Vilhena, and Luiza Lins. The session discussed the role of mnemonic activism in shaping a more inclusive public space, using concrete examples of initiatives that promote a pluralistic and inclusive collective memory.

In this presentation, the team shared an ongoing study involving focus groups conducted in public schools in northern Portugal. These sessions, held after screening a short film, prompted students to reflect on social memory and explore themes like migration and colonialism in the context of Portuguese secondary education.
