Thesis abstract:
Borders have been a central theme in history, marking a constant presence in political, social and economic discussions and influencing activist movements. They not only define geographical boundaries but are also shaped by ideas and cultures, affecting issues of identity and power. The theme of borders goes beyond its spatiality, assuming a crucial role in the dynamics of human relations. The main objective of this project is to develop a piece in the field of Media Arts focused on the processes associated with borders and migrations. The work aims not only to capture the essence of these themes but also to stimulate a reflection on the role of artistic activism, particularly in the field of Media Arts, in understanding the changing nature of borders. This document initially presents a reflective study on borders, migration and activism, emphasising artistic activism. A piece was also conceptualised, developed, and given to the public in July 2024 at gnration in Braga – a space dedicated to creation, performance and exhibition in music, contemporary art and the intersection between art and technology. The conceptual and technical processes of the work are detailed throughout the document, emphasising line as an essential element and sound as a transforming element. These elements reflect social dynamics and the struggles for their transformation, inviting the audience to question established narratives and contemplate alternative perspectives. The play thus creates a space for reflection on the power of manifestation and the social force capable of redefining these lines.
