Abstract: This edited volume comprises eleven chapters that explore public memory, media, migration, and intercultural communication, offering innovative theoretical perspectives and critical reflections across diverse contexts. It builds on the discussions developed during the international conference Migration and Communication in the Planetary Era: Debates and Actions, held in Braga, Portugal, in April 2025.

Starting from a critical reflection on how colonial legacies continue to manifest themselves through various forms of inequality that shape everyday life, this volume presents contributions that invite readers to revisit histories challenging dominant narratives, weaving together memories while fostering debate on possible pathways towards new forms of civic participation. Drawing on the knowledge and experience of contributors from diverse geographical contexts and fields of expertise, the book seeks to stimulate discussion on ways of unlearning colonialism and to contribute to the decolonization of knowledge and public space.
