0The International Conference “Migrations and Communication in the Planetary Era: Debates and Actions” took place at the University of Minho in Braga on April 29 and 30, 2025. Organised by the research project “Migrations, Media, and Activisms in Portuguese Language: Decolonising Mediascapes and Imagining Alternative Futures” (MigraMediaActs), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the event gathered over a hundred participants from various countries.
The conference aimed to discuss the multiple dimensions of communication, visual culture, and social activism, exploring their roles in the (re)configuration of relational spaces and poetics, as well as in promoting attentive listening. In a fragmented planetary context marked by daily crises, the event proposed to question, rethink, and reconstruct community pathways through communication.

Sessions were held both in person and online, allowing for broad international participation. During the conference, the films “Saracura” by Leena Manimekalai and “Where the Waves Break” by Inara Chayamiti were screened. The directors were present and participated in debates with the audience, enriching discussions on migrations, identity, and cultural resistance.
